Not many people realize it but the Jack actually has a very important role to play in video poker. This is in contrast to the various other forms of poker, wherein the ace is the most important card in the deck. The reason for the importance of the Jack in video poker is that it gives you more opportunities to make winning hands than the ace would. One of the most effective ways to use this information is then to hold on the jack for as long as possible, and not use it to draw a five for example. You may also want to keep in mind that in most cases, it is not advisable to keep a ten in order to draw a four-card video poker hand.
One other thing that you would do well to remember is not to keep a kicker with any pair. In video poker, doing so can result in reducing your return by as much as 5%.
